Relaţiile microorganisme/gazde umane fac parte din biologia existenţei umane şi evoluează independent, dar concomitent cu evoluţia biologică universală. Bolile infecţioase nu numai că nu au fost învinse (cu toate realizările obţinute în supravegherea/ terapia acestora!), dar vor continua să reprezinte o prioritate medicală în secolul XXI; un exemplu: Sindromul Acut Respirator Sever (SARS).
